Review of “Snuggle Time Psalms” by Glenys Nellist

If asked to review Glenys Nellist’s  Snuggle Time Psalms with one word, I would choose assurance. Nellist pairs fifteen Psalms with short, kid-friendly poems whose reoccurring themes offer assurance that God: is great and powerful, loves us deeply, and is an ever-present protector. Cee Biscoe’s accompanying illustrations feature endearing baby animals whose joyful or peaceful expressions reflect these sentiments.

One of my favorite spreads highlights Psalm 91:4, “He will cover you with his wings. Under the feathers of his wings you will find safety.”  The artwork depicts a mother duck with her arm around her pleased chick, while the first stanza reads:

God, you’re like a mommy bird

Who hides me in your wing.

Your feathers keep me warm and close

And safe from anything.

Great for little hands, the 5″ x 7″ board book is sturdy, compact and comfortable. It is, however, the heart of this book that mattersNellist’s apparent desire to assure sleepy toddlers that a mighty God loves them and is always watching over them.
