Second Grade Oil Pastel Giraffes

While moving into the art room last August, I discovered large taupe-colored charcoal papers stacked at the bottom of a cupboard. Cut in half, they transformed into perfectly-sized giraffe backgrounds for my second grade classes. The idea to draw giraffes came from here, but I changed the medium to oil pastels with the objectives of teaching shading and patterning. The results became one of my favorite projects so far this year:
