Although I enjoy the ease and variety of digital technologies to instruct and entertain kids, I still love the simplicity of object lessons. Employing everyday items in a biblical lesson helps kids make concrete connections to abstract biblical concepts and beyond the lesson, when they see the objects in different contexts, the items serve as visual reminders of the lesson’s truths. At the Christian school where I teach, I used the following object lesson and my book, I Want Your Smile, Crocodile, to explain the concept of being wonderfully designed a loving God.
The lesson plan overview, below, is in JPEG format. You can access the PDF format with clickable links to a craft idea here: Object Lesson Overview – PDF
At the bottom of the post is a video overview of: the lesson, scriptures, my book, and the coordinating craft. (I did the heart ornaments with kindergartners; they turned out great!) I hope you find this lesson truth-full, impacting, and fun.
I am happy to address questions in the comment section.
“Oops” disclaimer: In the making of the video, I should have said, “You are the one who can ‘tell them about’ living water,” instead of ‘give them.’ Christ is the giver of the living water others see in us.
