I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
Psalm 121:1-2
What’s your favorite scripture?
For many years, my answer to that question has been 2 Corinthians 4:16-18:
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
The passage reminds me that despite personal, national, or worldwide “troubles,” where I fix my gaze is my choice. “Looking up” affects spiritual tenacity, provides inner renewal, centers me on the source of help, and offers eternal perspective.
