Let us acknowledge the Lord;
let us press on to acknowledge him.
As surely as the sun rises,
he will appear;
he will come to us like the winter rains,
like the spring rains that water the earth.
Hosea 6:3
I queried “press on” in Bible Gateway, intending to use Philippians 3:14 as this week’s featured verse. Then Hosea 6:3 popped up. Although I checked my Bible and found the verse underlined, I did not remember it. It has now joined my list of favorites. I like the sun and rain analogies, but what’s most inspiring is the promise that pressing on brings presence:
He will appear.
He will come.
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:12-14
